Google’s Pixelbook: Revived High-End Chromebook

On 4th October Google announced high-end Pixelbook laptop With the launch of Google’s 2^nd Gen Pixel devices. Google’s Pixelbook is the modern image of a high-end Chromebook.

It is now a high-end 2 in 1 convertible laptop that is set to rival Microsoft’s Surface Book and Apple’s MacBook.

The Pixelbook is a thin and lightweight laptop that runs Chrome OS with the high-end specification. It also can be folded and used as a tablet. There’s an optional stylus available, too.

Now for those who don’t know about the Chrome OS:

What is Chrome OS?

Chrome OS is an operating system designed by Google that is based on the Linux kernel and uses the Google Chrome web browser as its principal user interface. Chrome OS is only available pre-installed on hardware from Google manufacturing partners.

In 2016, Google introduced the ability to run Android apps on supported Chrome OS devices, with access to the entire Google Play Store.

Now back to the Google Pixelbook so what are the specifications of the Pixelbook?

Three configurations will be available, and the Pixelbook Pen will be available separately for $99.

The pen offers angle and pressure sensitivity and has just 10ms of latency which means you should experience no lag. The same goes for studying. If you see a word you don’t understand you can circle that for an explanation from Assistant.

For example, Press the button on the Pen and circle a photo of a musician you don’t know. Assistant will tell you who it is and everything you need to know about them.

An interesting feature for Pixel owners is Instant Tethering. If the Pixelbook can’t find a WiFi network, it will tether to your Pixel and use the data available there.

It runs Chrome OS, and for the first time, Google has added Assistant to this laptop. To want to use Assistant’s features, there’s a dedicated button on the keyboard.

Battery life is 10 hours on one charge, but you can get two hours of power from just 15 minutes of charging with fast charging support.

Price and Availability:

Pixelbook starts at £999/$999, while Pixelbook Pen is $99/$99. For the 256GB £1,199/$1,199, and £1,699/$1,699 for the 512GB model with 16GB RAM and an i7 processor.

Google says it will start pre-order for the laptop starting Wednesday itself. It will go on sale on October 31 in the US, UK, and Canada.
