Microsoft has created a flood of news as they have launched a free version of Microsoft Teams. Yesterday, in the annual inspire event in Vegas, Microsoft made the announcement official.
Microsoft Teams was present since 2016 but the $60 per year subscription is quite heavy for the small businesses. The free tier of Slack, the direct competitor to Teams has helped Slack to gain fame. Similarly, a free version of Microsoft Teams should help Microsoft’s work chat app Teams.
The free version of Microsoft Teams offers unlimited free messages and searches. Moreover, audio and video calling will also be free for individuals, groups, and full team meetups. Storage wise per team will get 10 GB space and individuals get 2 GB of space. The best feature is, however, the availability of the Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint services. There’s also unlimited app integrations available to choose from 140+ business apps.
The free tier can hook up to 300 peoples per workplace. Starting today the service will be available in 40 languages.
Microsoft has done a good job to get enterprise customers. However, small businesses constitute 90% of the global businesses so Microsoft is right to go on with the free version of Microsoft Teams.
