Poco F1 Doesn’t Support HD or Full HD Video Streaming; Caps to 540p Max!

Notably, the Poco F1 comes with the top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC at such a jaw-dropping price tag. In addition, it also features 6GB or 8GB RAM, 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage, and a 4,000mah battery. Except for the plastic build, it seemed like Poco tried to pack everything at such a low price for the budget users. However, a recent report says the Poco F1 lacks a crucial feature that will be disappointing for heavy multimedia users. 

Poco F1 Doesn’t Support HD Content?

According to AndroidPure, the Xiaomi Pocophone F1/Poco F1 lacks Widevine L1. It means that you can’t watch videos from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video in high-definition. Widevine is a DRM standard adopted by many popular streaming services to prevent piracy. Widevine has three certification levels: L1, L2, and L3. Streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, BBC and more require the device to be Widevine L1 certified to be able to stream HD videos. However, the Poco F1 has Widevine L3 that means you can watch Netflix content at a maximum quality of 540p. No 720p, 1080p, or 4K options will be visible on F1. If you want to check whether your device supports Widevine L1, then you can download the DRM Info application from play store.

Notably, this issue occurred previously in devices like OnePlus 5T and many other devices as well. After that OnePlus addressed the issue and fixed it manually which required the users to send their devices to OnePlus. However, the new OnePlus 6 ships with Widevine L1 certification out-of-the-box. In the case of Poco, we don’t know how they’ll address it. An OTA update can’t fix this issue if the device doesn’t have the unique secret key in the TrustZone. We hope Xiaomi or Poco will respond to the problem very soon.
