It’s September 2018 and as many of you know during this time of the year Apple generally holds an event where they reveal their new devices. Like every other year, the hype is truly amazing this year as well. As you might already know Apple has launched quite a lot of devices and all of them got noticeable upgrades over the ‘older generation’. The devices launched yesterday includes the Apple Watch Series 4, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR.
The iPhone XS and XS Max show us how Apple is maintaining their past record of releasing ‘S’ devices. Rather than changing the design completely, Apple chose to do more with the internals of the device. However, the addition of the iPhone XR was something not everyone was hoping. It is more like a hybrid of the iPhone XS and the iPhone 8. Other than all these, Apple also has finally changed the design of the Apple watch.
Here’s everything that happened at the Apple event yesterday.
After the major refresh that Apple’s iPhone got last year, there was no such case this year. However, Apple has stuck to their more well-known plans of releasing an ‘S’ device and that’s the iPhone XS. The XS doesn’t come with any changes from the outside. Although, from the inside, it is a completely different smartphone with much more capabilities than the iPhone X.
The first and one of most important change is the inclusion of new Apple A12 Bionic chipset. The new Apple A12 Bionic chipset is based on the 7nm technology with 6.9 billion transistors. A12 Bionic is the industry’s first 7nm chipset and it offers a 6 core CPU, 4 core GPU and a neutral engine with 8 dedicated cores for machine learning. That’s a whole lot of performance improvements. Moreover, the chipset is more efficient as well when it comes to power consumption.
The iPhone XS Max also comes with a gorgeous new 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display. The new displays have 60 percent more dynamic range than the older generation.
Coming to the Camera part the iPhone XS features a 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup. The setup has a wide angle f/1.8 12-megapixel lens and another f/2.4 telephoto lens also of 12-megapixels. On the front side, the lens is a 7-megapixel f/2.2 lens. Among many new features, the upgraded camera comes with a Smart HDR mode and improved bokeh effects. The improved bokeh effect now lets the user select the amount of bokeh after clicking a photo.
Other than all these, the iPhone XS will also feature dual sim support for the first time. However, this feature will not be present in China. The users will be able to put one nano sim cards in their iPhone XS as they normally do. And the other sim card will be an e-sim.
Coming to the pricing part, the price of the iPhone XS will start at $999. The 64 GB variant will cost $999. Whereas the 256 GB and 512 GB device will cost more.
The iPhone XS Max is basically the bigger variant of the iPhone XS. In general, there are no changes in design or specs of the phone. Everything is the same apart from the display size. The iPhone XS Max features a 6.5-inch display with 458 pixels per inch and it’s the biggest display Apple has launched yet.
The pricing of the iPhone Max starts at $1099. As you can guess, the 64 GB variant costs $1099 and for the 256 GB or 512 GB variant, the price will be higher. Both the iPhone XS Max and the XS will be up for pre-order starting from 14th September and will start shipping from September 21st.
For some time now, people are habituated seeing two or more new iPhones every year with one of them being the larger variant. However, in yesterday’s launch event, Apple has surprised many by launching the new iPhone XR. T
The iPhone XR is basically a mix of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone XS. In terms of specifications and performance, the device is quite similar to the iPhone XS. However, the back side of the device comes with a glass back and series 7000 aluminum. The front side, however, looks more like the iPhone XS with an edge to edge display and a notch.
The bezels of the iPhone XR is slightly thicker than the iPhone XS. And you might be thinking why. That’s because the iPhone XR comes with an LCD panel rather than an OLED panel seen of the XS. The device also comes with IP 67 water resistance rather than the IP 68 on the XS and XS Max. Moreover, there’s only a single lens 12-megapixels f/1.8 wide-angle sensor at the back.
Other than these things mostly everything is same in iPhone XR with the iPhone XS and XS Max.
The Apple Watch Series 4 is finally here. It brings a design change after all most three years. The new displays are larger and curved. The small variant has got a new 32% bigger display whereas the larger variant has 35% bigger display. The bezels are now a lot thinner and the overall size of the Apple watch has reduced a little. What’s interesting is the Apple Watch Series 4 can perform electrocardiograms in just 30 seconds time.
The pricing of the Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399 and for the LTE version, you’ll have to pay $100 more at $499.

And lastly, if you’re waiting for the iOS 12 then Apple has mentioned that it will start rolling out on September 17th. As per Apple, the new iOS 12 focuses heavily on better performance. Keyboard open timings will be improved by up to 50% and App loading time will be improved by up to 40% as well.
The iOS 12 will roll out to all the devices that got iOS 11. That means it will include the much older iPhone 5S as well. To be honest that is not something we are used to. For a 5 years old device to still get software support is something really amazing.
This was everything that has happened at the Apple hardware launch event. However, Apple has not said anything about many hugely anticipated things like the new airpods and the MacBook Air. When do you think those devices will be coming out? Let us know in the comments.
