Google officially confirmed that it’s going to introduce Apple’s AirDrop adversary to Android smartphones. It has been named Nearby share. This upcoming feature allows Android users to share images, videos, URLs, documents, music, and other similar files. These files can be shared among multiple phones at the same time.
In a statement the company said that “We’re currently conducting a beta test of a new Nearby Share feature that we plan to share more information on in the future. Our goal is to launch the feature with support for Android 6+ devices as well as other platforms.”
Apple’s AirDrop is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Similar to Apple, Google is planning to bring this feature to its Chromebook as well, according to the Android Police.
In the first quarter of 2020, Samsung launched its own feature similar to AirDrop for Galaxy smartphone, called Quick Share. Now, Google is also working on the Nearby share feature and planning to release it soon. It can transfer large-sized files among Android phones, users will not have to depend on specific apps including SHAREit and Xender.
On the other side, Google released Android 11 developer previews. In the developer Preview users get early access to try the new app features apps exit reason updates, GWP-ASan heap analysis, ADB Incremental, Wireless Debugging, Data access auditing updates, and more features for developers. The company has already released Android 11 developer preview 3 build for its pixel smartphones.
