Airtel is taking on Reliance Jio’s feature phone with Karbonn’s smartphone. Airtel has recently partnered with 4G device manufacturers in India for its ‘Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone’ initiative. Karbonn A40 Indian is the result of that. Smartphones under this initiative will be available in offline stores and the after sales services will be handled by the device manufacturers.
It is very clear that Airtel is targeting Jio Feature phone and they are implying that they’ll not give an inch.

Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone was launched in July 2017 and currently have a market price of Rs. 3,499.
It will be available at an ‘effective price’ of Rs. 1,399. Customers will need to make a down payment of Rs. 2,899 for the smartphone and will get the rest Rs 1,500 as cashback within a period of 36 months. The cashback will be made in the form of payments to the user’s Airtel Payments Bank account.
To avail the above-mentioned cashbacks. Users will need to make recharges worth at least Rs. 3,000 in the first 18 months to avail a Rs. 500 cashback, and then make recharges worth at least the same amount over the next 18 months to avail a Rs. 1,000 cashback. Users will have to make recharges every month to be eligible for the cashbacks.
Airtel Bundle Offer:
Karbonn A40 Indian comes bundled with Airtel’s Rs 169 plan. It will give unlimited calling plus 0.5GB high-speed data per day for 28 days. Rs. 169 for 36 months totals to Rs. 6,084.
Airtel says the Karbonn A40 Indian smartphone will be “completely with the customer, and there is no need to return the device to Airtel/ Karbonn at any point to claim the cash benefit.”
Karbonn A40 Indian vs Reliance JioPhone:
Reliance JioPhone, the most important thing is that it only works with a Reliance Jio SIM card. Karbonn A40 India, on the other hand, can work with SIM card from any telecom operator. Also, people who wish to return JioPhone before 36 months won’t get Rs 1,500 deposit back.
Karbonn A40 is a touchscreen device running on android’s almost latest android 7.0 nougat whereas JioPhone lacks software support and of course a touchscreen.
Both of this device has its own pros and cons but which one is better suited it will be totally upon on our Indian consumers depending on their needs.
