So, here is the good news for all Xiaomi fans. Xiaomi has launched Xiaomi Mi 8 in a press event in China. The device is also their second flagship in 2018. Other than the Mi 8, Xiaomi has also unveiled two more variants of the Mi 8 in the same event. One is more premium Mi 8 Explorer edition whereas the other one is Mi 8 SE. The Mi 8 SE is the cheaper version of Xiaomi Mi 8.
One of the most highlighting points about the Mi 8 is that Xiaomi has finally switched to AMOLED. The new Samsung made AMOLED display on the Mi 8 looks absolutely stunning. Moreover, you can expect top-notch specifications from Xiaomi as the Mi 8 is their flagship smartphone. Oh well! By ‘top-notch’ I remember that the Mi 8 also sports a very similar iPhone X like notch. The device also comes with advanced facial recognition and AI features. Furthermore, the camera of the Mi 8 has scored 105 in DxOMark’s photo test, which is quite something. Currently, the device is available only in China but it should be making it’s way soon to India and other countries.
The Xiaomi Mi 8:
As mentioned earlier, the display on Mi 8 has got an upgrade compared to the last generation Xiaomi flagships. The smartphone now rocks a Samsung made 6.21-inch Super-AMOLED display. The display sports a resolution of 1080 x 2248 pixels and 18:7:9 aspect ratio. One can understand from the aspect ratio itself that the device has a notch on top. Similar to the iPhone X, the Mi 8 also houses the 20MP front-facing camera, Proximity sensor, Earpiece, Infrared Lighting and Infrared Lens inside the notch. The advanced infrared face unlock technology is expected to be as secure as the Face ID found in iPhone X. As per some of our sources, the notch was one big reason why Xiaomi delayed the launch of Xiaomi Mi 8.
The Mi 6 is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC as you might have already expected. The Snapdragon 845 consists of 4 cores of 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4 cores of 1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver. Along with the Snapdragon 845, the Adreno 630 GPU powers the graphics processing unit of the Mi 8. The device comes in a 6 GB RAM variant and comes in 64/128/256 GB storage options.
Coming to the cameras, the Mi 8 comes with dual 12 MP cameras at the rear. The cameras come with 1.4 micron-pixels which are pretty massive. Moreover, there are 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation, dual-pixel autofocus, and some AI features. The Mi 8 comes with AI portrait mode, AI Scene Detection, and iPhone like Studio Lighting mode. The front camera is a 20 MP shooter with a massive 1.8 micron-pixel size. The front also features AI modes like beauty, selfie and portrait modes. Again, it is quite interesting that the Xiaomi Mi 8 has scored an overall 99 and 105 in DxoMark’s photography testing.
The phone runs on MIUI 10 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo. Xiaomi has also packed Dual Frequency GPS system which reduces signal delays and makes it more accurate.
